Jinko Solar SunGiga: safety and reliability for C&I Battery Energy Storage Systems

In the battery energy storage system (BESS) sector, safety is a key consideration. Against this backdrop, Jinko ESS SunGiga solutions stand out as all-in-one systems for commercial and industrial (C&I) applications, designed to meet stringent quality, testing and control standards.

Jinko Solar supports this commitment with significant investment: more than 7,300 m² of testing laboratories and over RMB 50 million in equipment dedicated to the comprehensive validation of energy storage systems.

SunGiga G2 and G2 Plus: technical specifications

The SunGiga G2 and G2 Plus systems are integrated cabinets with capacities of 261 and 522 kWh, based on 3.2 V, 314 Ah prismatic LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells and managed by a 130.5 kW PCS.

Available with a C-rate of 0.5C or 1C, this configuration provides a balance between safety, efficiency and operational reliability, making the systems suitable for a wide range of C&I applications.

Validation across the entire supply chain

Jinko Solar’s approach involves comprehensive validation throughout the supply chain, rather than focusing solely on the finished product. Testing covers all critical components, including:

  • Battery cells
  • Battery packs
  • Battery Management System (BMS)
  • Power Conversion System (PCS)
  • Integrated safety systems

This process is complemented by in-depth analysis of materials and microstructures through chemical and physical testing, with the aim of ensuring performance and safety from the earliest development stages.

Electrical performance and long-term stability

Both individual cells and assembled battery packs are tested in dedicated laboratories to assess their capacity, long-term stability and behaviour under varying environmental conditions.
Temperature and humidity testing simulates real operating scenarios, helping to ensure reliable and continuous performance over time.

Advanced safety testing

Jinko Solar also carries out extreme and destructive testing to validate production batches. These tests include:

  • Short-circuit resistance testing
  • Thermal runaway management verification
  • Mechanical testing, including compression, impact, and nail penetration

This approach is based on the principle of redundant safety, a fundamental requirement for high-capacity battery energy storage systems.

Full-System testing under real operating conditions

Beyond individual components, Jinko Solar validates the complete energy storage system.

Its laboratories simulate real operating scenarios for both Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and utility-scale applications, evaluating:

  • BMS performance in managing large numbers of battery cells
  • Communication reliability
  • Dynamic response to operational commands
  • Alarm management
  • System behavior under abnormal operating conditions

The guiding principle is redundant safety, which is essential for high-capacity energy storage systems.

Complete system testing under real operating conditions

In addition to individual components, the entire system is tested. Jinko Solar’s laboratories simulate real-world C&I and utility-scale applications to assess the BMS when managing large numbers of cells, the reliability of system communications and the dynamic response to commands, alarms and potential faults.

Quality certified to international standards

The reliability of Jinko Solar BESS solutions is supported by a structured laboratory data management system, enabling each test to be validated from the original raw data.
The accreditations obtained at both Chinese national and international level confirm compliance with stringent industry standards and demonstrate Jinko Solar’s ability to support industrial partners in the continuous development of energy storage technologies.
