SMA Storage XL Package: indoor and outdoor configurations

Two versions are available:
- Indoor version (IP20): 89 kWh and 197 kWh
- Outdoor version (IP55): 107 kWh and 197 kWh
Both versions use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) prismatic battery cells, recognised as one of the safest and most reliable technologies for energy storage applications.
Key features include:
- 100% Depth of Discharge (DoD);

- 10-year warranty covering both the complete system and battery capacity.

Using the Sunny Tripower Storage X as the System Manager, it is possible to manage up to 10 battery inverters, while the SMA Data Manager M (EDMM-20) enables control of up to 50 inverters operating in parallel.
Each inverter supports up to four battery cabinets, allowing systems to reach:
- charging/discharging power of up to 2.5 MW;
- storage capacities exceeding 39 MWh.
This scalable architecture makes the SMA Storage XL Package suitable for both large agrivoltaic projects and high-power Commercial & Industrial energy storage applications.

The SMA Storage XL Package is an AC-coupled cabinet battery storage system for commercial and industrial indoor and outdoor applications.
The usable capacity varies between 89 and 197 kWh. The conversion for the charge and the discharge is handled by the Sunny Tripower Storage X (STPS30-20 or STPS50-20) battery inverter rated at 30 or 50 kW of nominal active power, with a 400 V nominal AC voltage and a peak efficiency of 98%. Depending on the capacity and power, it is possible to define six different configurations for the single system:
Indoor configurations
The following configurations are available:
- CSS-89-IN-30-30: 30 kW inverter + 89 kWh battery
- CSS-89-IN-50-30: 50 kW inverter + 89 kWh battery
- CSS-197-IN-50-30: 50 kW inverter + 197 kWh battery
Outdoor configurations
The following configurations are available for outdoor installations:
- CSS-107-OUT-30-30: 30 kW inverter + 107 kWh battery
- CSS-107-OUT-50-30: 50 kW inverter + 107 kWh battery

The guaranteed charging and discharging cycles are 8.000, with a battery efficiency of up to 98%.
The SMA Storage XL Package cabinet operates within an ambient temperature range from 0 °C to 55 °C with humidity up to 95% non-condensing, uses active air cooling (in the Indoor version) or HVAC cooling (in the Outdoor versione).
The protection rating is IP20 for indoor installation and IP55 for the outdoor installation.
The system is scalable and it is possible to connect up to 4 units in parallel for each inverter, for a total of 50 PCS that can be installed for each plant, exploiting SMA Data Manager M (EDMM-20) as the System Manager.
The SMA Storage XL batteries comply with IEC 62619, IEC 63056, UN 38.3, IEC 61000, IEC 62477, IEC 60730, VDE 2510, as well as REACH and RoHS.
Communication runs through an Ethernet (Modbus) and CAN interface to the inverter, with monitoring via SMA Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS and integrated cybersecurity.
The SMA Storage XL is covered by a 10-year warranty on system and battery capacity upon product registration.
