Sungrow SH125CX: high-performance C&I hybrid inverter for solar PV and industrial energy storage

Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy technologies with over 28 years of experience in the research, development and manufacturing of solar inverters and energy storage systems, expands its portfolio with the new Sungrow SH125CX, a hybrid inverter specifically designed for the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) segment.

This new solution builds on the proven SG125CX-P2 string inverter, integrating a powerful high-voltage battery charger with a charge/discharge current of up to 200 A and a maximum power output of 125 kW. The result is an advanced solution designed for commercial and industrial PV systems with battery storage, helping to maximise self-consumption, operational continuity and intelligent energy management.

Optimised architecture for next-generation PV modules

One of the key upgrades introduced with the Sungrow SH125CX is the complete redesign of the PV-side architecture. MPPT current has been increased to 40 A, ensuring compatibility with the latest high-power modules featuring G12 cells.

The DC/AC ratio has also been increased to up to 200%, thanks to the ability to manage both PV modules and the battery system simultaneously on the DC bus. This provides greater design flexibility and enables more effective use of the energy generated by the PV system.

Advanced functions for self-consumption and energy management

The Sungrow SH125CX integrates the key functions required by today’s advanced C&I energy systems. The inverter features:

  • backup output for enhanced continuity of supply
  • integrated EMS for advanced energy management
  • self-consumption mode
  • peak shaving to reduce peak power demand
  • time-of-use functions to optimise energy costs according to different tariff periods

These features make the SH125CX particularly suitable for energy-intensive businesses, industrial facilities, commercial buildings and manufacturing sites with complex consumption profiles.

Safety and reliability in demanding environments

Like other inverters in the Sungrow range, the SH125CX integrates advanced protection and diagnostic technologies. These include:

  • Anti-PID function to help recover the performance of degraded PV modules
  • AFCI 3.0 (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) with arc detection up to 450 metres
  • IP66 protection rating
  • C5 anti-corrosion rating, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments and coastal areas

The inverter is therefore designed to provide reliable operation even under particularly challenging environmental conditions.

Simplified maintenance and advanced monitoring

From an O&M perspective, the Sungrow SH125CX has been developed to reduce intervention times and operating costs. Available features include:

  • automatic air-duct cleaning system
  • individual string monitoring
  • I-V curve scanning for diagnostics and fault detection
  • optimised operating temperature for maximum energy yield

These capabilities are particularly valuable for installers, EPC contractors and operators managing multi-site PV systems or complex energy assets.

Sungrow PowerKeeper batteries for DC-coupled C&I energy storage

To complement its C&I storage offering, Sungrow introduces the new PowerKeeper batteries, designed for direct integration with the SH125CX.

The units use 3.2 V LFP cells, with a net capacity of 12.48 kWh and a 0.5 C charge/discharge rate. The modular configuration enables storage systems ranging from approximately 50 to 150 kWh, comprising one to four battery towers.

PowerKeeper batteries are also designed for outdoor installations and industrial environments, featuring:

  • IP66 protection
  • C5 anti-corrosion rating
  • forced-air cooling
  • temperature and smoke sensors
  • chassis with pressure relief valves
  • flood resistance up to 50 cm

Modularity, retrofit capability and maximum scalability

The modular approach significantly simplifies installation and future system expansion. Each module weighs approximately 90 kg, facilitating transportation and installation on site.

The batteries can be installed:

  • side by side in a linear configuration
  • back to back
  • with a dedicated technical aisle for maintenance

Thanks to advanced cell-balancing software, storage capacity can be expanded at any time, allowing the system to adapt to changing business energy requirements.

A single inverter can support up to 4 ST050-250CF units, providing a total storage capacity of up to 1,000 kWh.

System configurations and communication

The system supports complex configurations with up to 24 inverters within the same installation, including retrofit projects on existing PV systems. System monitoring and management are handled by the proven Logger1000, included in the COM100 communication package.
