HIT solar cells improve boundary characteristics and reduce power generation losses by forming impurity-free i-type amorphous silicon layers between the crystalline base and p- and n-type amorphous silicon layers.

Panasonic Corporation has announced to have reached a new record of 24,7 % in efficiency conversion at experimental level, using its solar cell HIT of 98 micron height. It is the world record for each crystalline silicon based in solar cells of dimensions either equal or higher than 100 cm2.
This achievement shows the great efficiency of the Panasonic solar cell in turning the sun light into electric energy. The latest result is 0,8 percentage points more than the previous record of 23,9% for the solar cells HIT, and 0,5 percentage points more than any other record proclaimed for any monocrystalline solar silicon either equal or higher than 100 cm2.
Furthermore reaching this great performance in the very thin height of 98 micron has positive effects in decreasing the costs. The increasing improvement in efficiency of Panasonic will have for sure positive future development in reducing the production costs with the main aim of being different from the other companies in the same field.
